You’ll find a wide variety of styles, patterns, colors and fabrics to fill out your wardrobe for the colder months ahead.

Plenty Of Knitwear Styles

We think that the best part of sweater shopping is getting to choose from a wide selection of styles. Each year, we turn around our inventory to provide the latest fashions in knitwear. From the oversized boyfriend sweater to a chunky cowl-neck, there’s something to please almost everyone in our sweater collection.

Boyfriend

The boyfriend style is fairly modern, first appearing around the 1980’s or 1990’s. This style is an oversized sweater designed for optimum comfort. Generally this style has a crew-neck, but it may also come in a turtleneck or mock turtleneck style. Boyfriend sweaters are often bulky and extra thick for that added layer of warmth.

Cardigan

Named for James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, this popular, button-up sweater has been around since the 1850’s. From lightweight sweaters to wear over dresses to heavy, wool outerwear, the cardigan has been available in many styles for a long time.

Cowl-Neck

A cowl-neck sweater has a wide, fold-over neck that is often loose fitting, like a cowl or a small scarf. They are sometimes designed this way for extra warmth around the neck, but may also simply designed for that high fashion, finishing-touch look.

Crewneck

The crewneck is a rounded neckline garment, the opening of which is usually quite high on the neck. This style is classic, flattering to most figures and is always in style.

Turtleneck

The turtleneck sweater, as with a turtleneck shirt, offers a long, high sock-like neck that can either be rolled down or scrunched, depending on how you choose to wear it. This style has been around since the 1860’s, and it is sometimes also referred to as a polo neck.

V-Neck

The V-Neck sweater is typically a classic pullover, like the crew-neck, but with V-shaped neckline. The depth of the V will differ from piece to piece, and some of these garments may incorporate decorative buttons along one side of the opening.

Choosing Patterns and Fibers

If you’re not so picky about style, but you have strong opinions on patterns and fabric types, you’ll want to check out the different knit patterns and fabric types available. As with our styles, the inventory choices for patterns and fibers will differ depending on the current season. Here are some of the choices we sometimes offer.

Cable Knit

The classic cable knit sweater is generally knit from wool, wool blends or acrylic, and features cable stitching in various patterns. Cables appear like cords or ropes and may form bands, knots or other patterns on a sweater’s front, sleeves, neckline or cuffs.

Cashmere

Seen as a classy Christmas gift, often given to a romantic partner, the cashmere sweater has long been hailed as the most luxurious sweater of all. Cashmere is a type of material made from the soft, fine undercoat of goats from the Gobi Desert region.

Fair Isle

Fair Isle is actually a knitting technique, not a pattern. This technique allows a knitter, or a knitting machine, to create complex patterns with multiple colors. A traditional Fair Isle sweater often uses diamonds or snowflakes in the pattern, but many other designs can be created.

Stripes

Stripes is a fashion trend that seems to evoke strong opinions. From wide, block colors to thin pinstripes, love them or hate them, this pattern is here to stay. If you love stripes, you’ll definitely want to add some to your knitwear collection.

As you browse our knitwear collection, we hope that the above guides help you choose your very next favorite sweater!
